Ossis Collection ~ Launching Holiday 2013
July 12, 2013 § Leave a comment
Combining a hint of edgy unconformity with a sense of history and tradition, Ossis is a collection of vintage inspired jewelry, cast from sterling silver and embellished with 14k gold and gemstones.
The word Ossis in latin means ‘bone’. In architecture we always talk about the structure or fundamental elements of an environment as the bones. For thousands of years, bones have been fashioned as tools, musical instruments, whistles and other objects of ritual use. The Medicine Person symbolically becomes a ‘Hollow Bone’, having shape-shifted into a vessel or channel through which a ‘Spirit’ can take action to guide or touch others. They are thinking, talking, and walking in the presence a Spirit and each action is a service to those who are gathered. Bones represent the foundation of self, attitude, relationship, and belief systems, and are symbols of death and rebirth. Some cultures use bones of different animals for purposes of scrying (usually chicken bones), or for ceremonial tools according to their spiritual or religious beliefs. The skeleton image or symbol in artwork may indicate the desire to reveal hidden issues; or break things down to the structural form, often representing that which we hide from others or ourselves. With so much history, nuance and meaning, Ossis was an irresistable name for this new handcrafted jewelry collection – stay tuned for new exciting introductions!
